Frequently Asked Questions

Below you will find the top questions asked about seeing a Naturopathic Physician.  If there is a question that has not been answered, please feel free to contact us.  Our customer service specialists are fully trained to anticipate your needs.

What can I expect during my first visit?

Your doctor will take an extensive history and listen to all of your chief concerns.  Knowing and understanding important milestones and events in your life will allow your doctor to identify the cause of your illness, and direct a focused and individualized treatment strategy.  Appropriate exams and lab tests will be ordered at the end of your visit.  New Patient Visits will take approximately 60-90 minutes.  Please make sure all of your paperwork has been filled out online and submitted 24 hours prior to your visit.

How does Naturopathic Medicine differ from Conventional Allopathic Medicine?

Naturopathic medicine differs in its strategy.  Rather than suppressing a few key symptoms, our goal for patients is the restoration of their overall health.  In this regard, we work to identify the underlying causes of the medical condition(s) that brought you to the office, and use treatments that promote the natural healing mechanisms of the body.  Typically, our doctors spend more time with patients than conventional doctors do, and are therefore deeply familiar with patients' health.  Consequently, side effects occur much less frequently.  We consider the education of our patients and answers to their questions a vital aspect of the care.

Do you accept insurance?

We fill out all the necessary forms for you to submit to your insurance company so that you can be adequately reimbursed.  Some insurance companies will cover naturopathic medicine, some cover acupuncture, and some cover both.  Most treatment visits, blood tests, labs, and imaging studies are covered by major insurance carriers.  We gladly accept Health Savings Accounts (HSA).  Flexible spending plans and medical savings accounts frequently reimburse for the cost of care and for the nutritional supplements that come from my office.  We are happy to support you with any necessary letters or documentation to help with your reimbursement from these eligible programs.  As a benefit for our patients whose insurance carriers list naturopathic physicians as out-of-network healthcare providers, we will provide the necessary information and coding for them to submit for reimbursement.  All payments are due at the time services are rendered, except in the case of insurance liens (please see our "Personal Injury and Accidents" page).

How long will treatment take?

In the treatment of chronic diseases, each patient’s story matters.  Respectful and appropriate individualized care is given to our patients as they present at that moment.  Typical improvement begins quickly within a few weeks, but the length of time a person has been out of balance may lengthen the improvement overall.  Our treatment strategy is determined on a monthly basis.  For a general rule of thumb, estimate one month of treatment for every year you have been chronically ill.  Our goal may never be the complete cure of any disease, but rather to get people better than they have been and improve the quality of life.  This is a vital role in the doctor-patient relationship.

What conditions can be treated with Naturopathic Medicine?

Naturopathic physicians are trained in the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic diseases.  The skills of our well-trained physicians stimulate the healing response of the body.  Removal of key obstacles are critical for the prognosis of our patients.  We meet our patients where they are on their health continuum, and lead them back to a state of health, vibrance, and high-level wellness.
